2 VMLA alumni drafted to Western Lacrosse Association
Vancouver Minor Lacrosse Association is pleased to announce that 2 of our alumni were taken in last
Wednesday’s (Feb 10, 2021) Western Lacrosse Association draft of graduating Junior players
Ethan McLaren was drafted by the storied New Westminster Salmon Bellies in the 4 th round 5 th pick 26 th
Pick overall. Ethan Vancouver highest drafted player since records were kept.
Ethan played box lacrosse with the Burrards Novice to Midget and also played with field U-12 to U-18.
He was an undrafted midget player and tried out with and played Burnaby Intermediate A and then
Junior A with the same club. Converted to a defender also took faceoffs. With the Burrards he won gold
at Bantam Provincials in 2013, Silver at the 2014 Midget Provincials, Bronze at U-14 and Silver at U-18
provincials. He was named graduating VMLA Field Player in 2017. He plays Field Lacrosse at SFU.
Jackson Cowie was drafted by the Burnaby Lakers in the 6 th round 3rd pick.
Jackson played box lacrosse with the Burrards Novice to Midget and also played with field U-12 to U-18.
He was drafted by the Langley Thunder out of Midget and won gold at Intermediate provincials.
Converted to a defender. With the Burrards he won Silver at the 2014 Midget Provincials, Bronze at U-
14 and Silver at U-18 provincials.
We look forward to seeing them in WLA games in the future.
The last WLA drafted player was Kurtis Shum in 2019.
